圖書資訊學概論 10/18 (Peter4)

Peter老師的第四個講題：Evaluating libraries。


為何要評估呢？因為圖書館是儲存資訊與知識的最大的倉庫，是母機構中的很大的投資。

所以評估圖書館會從 just-in-case到just-in-time。

Just-in-case: 以備不時之需，所以會準備全所有東西。
Just-in-time: 有需要就給，不必有庫存，需要再買。




Discoussion: Make a list of the good things about your library, and compare the items on your list to those on other lists.

What makes a quality library?
1. Quality consists of the capacity to satisfy wants (Edward)
2. Quality is the degree to which a specific product satisfies the wants of a specific consumer (Gilmore)
3. The quality of a product depends on how well it fits patterns of consumer preferences (Kuehn & Day)

Why evaluate?

1. To verify if the services & collections match user needs: Professional, curricular, recreational, etc.
2. To alert us to any problem/deficiencies in services & collections
3. To demonstrate that services & collections have value - $$ well spent
